Meet the Team.
Michelle Lerner, president of Lerner Communications, has more than a decade of communications and advocacy experience in non-profits and school districts, most recently at DC Public Schools, where she served as Press Secretary and later led the communications work for the fastest improving urban school district in the nation. At DC Public Schools, she expanded the communications work to include internal communications, family-facing communications, and school-based websites.
Michelle previously led communications for the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, an education think tank, and worked at the American Federation for Children, an advocacy organization. Michelle thrives in helping organizations find and share their stories.
She has experience in communications strategy, message and story development, media relations, social media, crisis communications, internal communications, event planning, advocacy, media training, and government affairs.
Michelle serves as a member of the Education Writers Association’s Community Advisory Board. She graduated from Boston University with a bachelor’s in journalism and from George Mason University with a master’s in public policy. Michelle lives in Washington, D.C., with her husband, son, and cat.
